Turkish-backed forces appear to be using white phosphorus-loaded munitions—a chemical that can maim and kill when it comes in contact with human flesh—in their violent operation against Kurdish fighters in northern Syria.
Some "cease fire"
This is exactly right. This is so overtly corrupt that it can't be viewed as anything but a loyalty test for Senators. If they are corrupt enough to look the other way, Trump will know he can do anything. In that case, he will do everything.
Replying to @maddow: this is an important point, made here between mr. bruni and mr. shaub:
Senate Finance Ranking Member Ron Wyden: "Hosting the G-7 at Trump's failing Doral resort is one of the most egregious examples of corruption and self-dealing in the most corrupt presidency in our history. Foreign governments should not be forced to line Donald Trump's pockets."

NEW - A senior DOJ official has now provided this statement to reporters further distancing the department from Mulvaney’s comments: “If the White House was withholding aid in regards to the cooperation of any investigation at the Department of Justice, that is news to us.”
After Pence said they agreed to a ceasefire, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu says, “This is not a ceasefire. We will pause the operation for 120 hours in order for the terrorists to leave. We will only stop the operation if our conditions are met.”
(1) turkey wants to push the kurds out of that part of syria.
(2) trump gives ‘em the OK to invade.
(3) pence brokers a “deal” in which the kurds... must get out of that part of syria.
(4) the US agrees to un-sanction turkey.
that’s a “deal” like being mugged is a deal.
As usual, Maddow sums everything up more clearly than anyone.
In case it's not clear from my freaking out, this G-7 thing is an escalation. It may look from the outside like it's been corruption all along—because it has been—but participating in a contract award to yourself is different by orders of magnitude. This is a red line crossed.
.@VP Pence: "I am proud to report....today the United States and Turkey have agreed to a cease fire in Syria. The Turkish side will pause...for 120 hours" to allow Kurdish YPG fighters to withdraw from the safe-zone
Turkey's objective was to push the Kurds out of Northern Syria.
What Pence really just announced was that the US is backing Turkey's objective and that the Kurds must leave.
This is surrender.
